NEED A LAPTOP?

Well, you've come to the right place!
We lend laptops to those that need them - university and college students, anyone really. But let's be clear, we're not giving them away. They are loaned for as long as you need them, then returned to us to help the next person. Oh yes, and they're not top spec all singing all dancing laptops. They have been donated and repurposed to allow you to access the internet (you'll need a wifi connection of your own), where you can then deal with emails, online office apps and more.

GOT AN OLD LAPTOP? DONATE IT!

Our stock of laptops to lend depends on the donations of old machines for us to repurpose. So, if you have a laptop lying around at home or the office that you no longer use, why not send it to us so we can repurpose it and lend it to someone who needs it? As long as it's a working machine we can use it. In fact if it's a laptop and the battery is dead but you still have the mains charger, we can use it! We're confident that we can use any old laptops that still boot up, but if for some reason we can't, we promise to recycle them responsibly.

FREE AND OPEN SOURCE

Our machines run an operating system called Peppermint OS which is a distribution of the Linux operating system. Why? Because it's free and open source so you don't need to pay for a licence, or upgrade every few weeks. It's an OS designed for maximum web compatibility and integration. When we loan you the machine it will come with a fresh new install of Peppermint OS, which is very intuitive and simple to use. You won't be able to use Windows or Mac OS based apps, but most productivity platforms have free to access web apps that you can use whilst you're online (for example Microsoft Office or the G suite from Google). The machines also have a free to use office suit called Libre Office which can handle common file formats and is cross compatible with them and can be used when you're offline. We also recommend you use a cloud based storage solution, of which there are many available free (as many of our laptops don't have very large hard drives).
